Finding Twitter users based on their bio

in Google Alerts, Twitter, social media

I got some great feedback on my recent post on lead generation with Google Alerts and Twitter, but some felt I got just a little too geeky. So here is the basic technique in a simpler form. If you are looking for people to follow on Twitter who have specific keywords in their bio, you can create a Google Alert that finds their profile page as soon as they create it. Google is indexing Twitter very quickly now, so you will get a steady stream of follow suggestions this way.

Here is the profile page of @mackcollier, a very active social media twit. All we have to do is come up with a search pattern that finds social media in his and other people’s bios. These only appear on their Twitter profile pages.

twitterbio

The search pattern we want is intext:”bio * word” site:twitter.com. So this search will create an alert that will notify you whenever a bio is created containing social media:

intext:”bio * social media” site:twitter.com
