I watch tweets about Google Alerts all day, and one of the biggest complaints is the problem of Gmail putting Google Alerts into the spam folder. I know, it’s really silly, but it does happen. If you have this problem, there is a simple procedure to keep it from happening again. The idea is to add Google Alerts to your Gmail contacts list.
1. First find a Google Alerts email in your Gmail spam folder. You can do this quickly by clicking the link for Spam, and then searching for Google Alerts. If there are any labelled as spam, they’ll show up in the search results.
2. Click one of the alert emails in spam, and open the special options menu. This is the small down arrow in the upper-right corner of the email message, to the right of the Reply link.

3. Select “Add Google Alerts to Contacts List” from the drop-down menu.

That’s all. Your Google Alerts will be delivered correctly to your inbox from now on.

Hi, Your solution to Google Alerts ending up in spam does not always work. Mine are always tagged as “Phishing Alerts” and when you pull down the menu there is no “add Google Alerts to contacts list” item to click on. If you code it as not phishing there is still no item in the pull down menu. I’ve tried to add it manually but it definitely hasn’t worked. Any suggestions?
