I’ve been thinking about getting involved with digital photography, so I created a set of alerts to deliver a steady stream of advice. Like many new digital photographers, the decision between Nikon and Canon is proving tough, which leads me to read a lot of comparative reviews. I could just create an alert for two specific models:
canon 40d nikon d40
But this is probably too specific. The asterisk wild card operator will have Google match against any model name:
canon * nikon *
As I started receiving these alerts, I saw that a common pattern for these types of reviews is to use one model versus another. Google is smart enough to realise that vs and vs. are also synonyms of versus, so I only have to use one to get them all:
canon * vs nikon *
This gets too many results with these words in different patterns. It can be made more specific by putting the entire query in quotes:
“canon * vs nikon *”
To be even more specific, I can restrict this to just pages with this comparison in the title:
intitle:”canon * vs nikon *”
Now I just have to come up with a couple of thousand dollars to buy the cool gear in these reviews. :\
