Real estate tips for Google Alerts

Real estate agents are showing a lot of interest in Google Alerts on blogs and Twitter, so I put together some useful alert ideas for real estate:

Track your name and company name. Your reputation is a critical resource, and you must monitor it. When creating the alert, put your entire name in quotes. That way you won’t get alerts on just a match for your first or last name:
“adam green”

You can track mentions of each of your listings. There are lots of mentions of real estate scams and hijacking of listings on the Web. You’ll get a precise match if you put the street address in quotes:
“1 main street” lexington mass

Being current on local news is essential, and an easy way to do that is to include the zip code for any area you cover:
zoning changes 02421

Try following news on real estate specific sites like ActiveRain.com. This can be done by adding site:activerain.com at the end of any alert:
public schools site:activerain.com
