in AlertRank, Announcements, Google Alerts

We opened up the site for new accounts this afternoon, and so far everything looks like it is working fine. Now that we have a chance to breath, I thought I’d describe our design philosophy for AlertRank. Functionally, the site can be described as a database system for Google Alerts, but I like to think of it as a smart filter. The goal is to help you get past the noise that can result from too many alerts. Most people don’t want to see every mention of their search terms. They want to get to the most useful mentions in the shortest amount of time.  That is why we have built all of the tools around our AlertRank Quality Score. Every page that delivers an alert or source uses this value in one way or another. Right now you can sort and filter the results on the AlertRank value. In the future we want to find new ways to automatically deliver the best alerts to our users with as little work as possible.
